About the Juneteenth Parade: Milwaukee’s Juneteenth Parade is one of the largest and longest running Juneteenth celebrations in the country, drawing more than 50,000 people every year. Now in its 54th year, the festival brings families together through food, music, art, and education. TMJ4 News will broadcast this year’s parade for the 4th year. Parade participants include representatives of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, Marquette Men's Basketball team and a variety of elected officials. More than 300 vendors line King Drive selling local food and products. About the Freedom Ball: The Freedom Ball is a Cultural event with a silent auction that serves as the main fundraiser for the Juneteenth Pageant. Juneteenth Court is introduced to the community. Awards for community leaders, father of the year, and a non-African American who has helped Northcott fulfill its mission of serving disadvantaged residents. About the Juneteenth Pageant: The Juneteenth Pageant awards scholarships to Miss Juneteenth, Mister Juneteenth, Little Miss Juneteenth, and Little Mister Juneteenth. The Pageant It is not a beauty pageant. Participants must have a minimum 2.50 grade point average, be currently enrolled in a K-12 school, in the City of Milwaukee and meet age requirements. Age Requirements: Miss and Mister Juneteenth: 13-19 years Little Miss and Mister: 8-12 years About Kids Zone: Kids Zone is held on Martin Luther King Jr., Elementary School Playground and attracts youth ages 5 – 11years old. It’s a safe place for youth to enjoy the festival. Kids Zone features carnival rides, petting zoo, pony rides, city of Milwaukee Fire Department, Survive Alive Unit and the City of Milwaukee, Police Department Ice Cream Truck. About Teen Zone: Teens ages 12 – 17 years old are provided with teen-friendly activities including a basketball Tournament against City of Milwaukee Police Department (includes dunk contest and three-point shooting contest), Double Dutch Rope Jumping contest, Hula Hoop Contest, spoken word, music and other activities. About Senior Zone: Senior Zone is a comfortable setting with tents and chairs for seniors to relax and enjoy the festival. Seniors have their own DJ, have a variety of activities to include Karaoke, Bingo and a variety of card games (Tournaments). About Veterans Zone: Veterans Zone is located on the northeast end of Bernice & Clinton Rose Park. Supportive services for veterans of all branches of the military. Opportunity for veterans to meet, trade stories acquire badly need resources and come together with others who’ve served our country. About the Concert Series: Every Saturday during the summer at Clinton Rose Park. The “Celebrate culture of yesterday, today and tomorrow” Concert Series. Provides live entertainment to residents in an open-air setting. The summer concert series features local and national talent.
For fifty-four years, Northcott Neighborhood House has convened the Juneteenth festivities. Every year, more than 50,000 people pack city blocks in Milwaukee to enjoy one of the largest, and longest running Juneteenth celebrations in the country. This year we celebrate 55 years of bringing families together through food, music, art, and education. Our theme is: “Juneteenth...Honoring the Past and Empowering the Future.” NBC affiliate TMJ4 News will broadcast the parade for the sixth year where thousands of people are expected to watch on-air and online. Major Sponsors will be featured during the broadcast, by scrolling their names or will be in a shot that appears periodically during the broadcast. The event takes place on Thursday, June 19". Highlights of the day-long celebration include: Morning parade with more than 125 participants, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, and Marquette Men’s Basketball Team. Over 450 vendors featuring soul food, vegetarian, and Caribbean cuisine. Art, dance, and music from multiple genres along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Veterans Zone honoring those who serve and have served in the military. Kids Zone for children to play at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School playground. Teen Zone with basketball, double-dutch competitions, and spoken word. Senior Zone with shaded seating, music, and dancing. Concert Series featuring national artists like NuBlu Band, Ivan Singh, and local performers throughout the summer. The Freedom Ball is a fundraising event to provide scholarships for young African-Americans through the Miss & Mister Juneteenth and Little Miss & Mister Juneteenth Junior pageant. It is an evening of presentation of the Juneteenth Scholarship Winners & their Court, highlighting culture, celebration of history, dance, art and presentation of the “Community Commitment”, “Father of the Year” and “Volunteer of the Year” Award Honorees.
